Originally founded in 1951, the Department of Kinesiology & Community Health Sports Fitness Program has the distinction of being one of the longest running summer youth fitness programs in the country. The program began as a service to the communities of Champaign and Urbana with the intent of providing an opportunity for children to stay physically active in an organized environment during the summer months.
The 2017 Sports Fitness Program begins on Monday, June 12th and ends on Friday, July 28th.
Special Friday sessions will be offered on June 16th, 23rd, 30th, July 14th, 21st, and 28th. You may register your child for all six Friday sessions, or individual sessions. Please note the capacity of our Friday sessions will be 50 children to allow for special activities.
Programming includes options for full or half-day enrollment as well as enrolling children for up to seven weeks of programming. Our goal is to provide a quality, developmental, physical activity program for children.
The 2017 Sports Fitness Program will be accepting only 120 children per session and only accepting children 7-12 years of age. The children will be assigned to groups by age:
Only 40 children will be enrolled in each group per session. In past years the program has filled up very quickly, so with the limited enrollment you will need to register early.
The 2017 Sports Fitness Program will be conducted on University of Illinois Campus Recreation facilities. This year, with a few exceptions, all activities (morning and afternoon) will again be based at the ARC and nearby fields/courts. When we must deviate from this due to facility conflicts advance notification will be sent out in regard to any changes of the drop-off and pick-up locations.
