Description:

FAmily STart (FAST) Learning and Support Services, a division of the UIC Center for Literacy in the College of Education, empowers and strengthens Head Start families in Chicago. Our mission is to provide access to high-quality, research-based learning opportunities in collaboration with community partners. Our vision is to break the cycle of poverty and collectively strengthen communities through family learning services.

The Adult Education and Career Transition Program is an important part of achieving FAST’s mission and vision. Current and future Head Start parents interested in continuing their basic education are enrolled in or referred to classes/tutoring in English-as-a-Second Language, GED (in English or Spanish) and literacy/numeracy. Learners also receive case management services, career transition support, and technology training.
