GSLIS is committed to expanding our focus of continuous learning and development by creating and providing the library and information professional community with a variety of continuing professional development opportunities in many areas of library and information science, services, and operations. We have several ongoing activities that serve as continuing professional development resources; additionally, each semester we have a range of offerings for you to choose from such as graduate level community credit courses. We are guided by the Steering Committee for the ALA Second Congress on Professional Education (November 2000), which defined continuing professional development as a broad spectrum of activities including:

  • continuing education
  • lifelong learning activities
  • training and skills development
  • intellectual nourishment
  • forums for reflection
  • exposure to new ideas
  • work experience
  • professional refreshment and rejuvenation
  • personal networking

The Committee further recognized that there are many means of addressing continuing professional development including:

  • formal workshops
  • credit courses
  • conferences and other events
  • research and publication
  • professional reading
  • association activity
  • personal networking

Workshop and continuing education course costs include a non-refundable 30% registration fee and all course materials (unless otherwise noted). If a CPD course or workshop must be canceled by GSLIS, you will be notified and your money will be fully refunded. Cancellations must be received in writing (via email or fax 217-244-3302) five business days prior to the start date in order for the registrant to receive the maximum refund of 70%. With notice fewer than five days, no refund will be given: however another person may take your place in the course or workshop.

Deadline for registration and payment will usually be one week before the start of each continuing education activity.
