The Family Advocacy Clinic was formed to provide legal representation to parents, children, and families facing separation due to allegations of abuse or neglect. This clinic affords students an opportunity to represent low-income parents and/or children as court-appointed counsel in juvenile abuse and neglect cases in Champaign County.

Students will have a chance to provide high quality, holistic representation for clients facing the serious consequences of family disruption. Clients accused of abuse or neglect, and those who are the victims of abuse and neglect, face incredibly important and dire circumstances, and students enrolling in the Family Advocacy Clinic should be prepared to engage in zealous advocacy on behalf of clients in crisis. The clinic not only provides students with real-world experience working with clients under the supervision of a trained attorney and faculty member, but also provides a necessary outlet for local families underserved due to the enormous backload of juvenile abuse and neglect cases in Champaign County.
